 America has gone to war many times throughout its history. In fact, America was founded via war. In some wars, America was on the offense, in other times, it was defense, or to help allies. War has not been declared by Congress since 1941. However, we have still gone to war (or police actions) via Congressional resolutions, or executive authorities.
