DeSoto State Park

DeSoto State Park, named after the explorer Hernando DeSoto, was developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and is located atop Lookout Mountain in Northeast Alabama. Its natural scenery includes more than 3,000 acres of forests, waterfalls, rivers, and mountain terrain. The park's most famous attraction is the 104-foot DeSoto Falls, where an engineer built a dam in the 1920s to generate electricity. Lodging facilities include Mountain Chalets, Log and Rustic Cabins, and a campground with 94 sites. The park also offers a restaurant, picnicking, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, a playground,  a CCC museum, and a nature center. The park also includes 25 miles of hiking trails.  Activities to do in the park include cycling, fishing, kayaking, biking, hiking, and rock climbing.

Cheaha State Park, in the Northeast quarter of Alabama, includes the highest point in the state, the 2,413 feet Cheala Mountain. Scenery in the park includes forest, lakes, and waterfalls. It is located in the middle of Talladega National Forest. A lodge, a country-style restaurant, a general store, and a 73-site campground are among the facilities in the park. Things to do include picnicking, swimming, fishing, and hiking.

Gulf State Park is located in south Alabama along the Gulf of Mexico. The park includes 2.5 miles of white sand beaches along the Gulf, an 18-hole championship golf course, tennis courts, 496 modern campsites, rental cottages, cabins, a 1,512 foot long fishing pier, and a zipline course, which was opened in 2013. The park offers swimming, fishing, golfing, ziplining, and hiking. Visitors can also enjoy the wildlife in the park, which includes raccoons, alligators, bobcats, and deer.
