American High Schools

The United States has many, many, high schools for students aged 14-18 in grades 9-12 to attend-- 29,070, to be exact. These high schools can be general schools (most of them are), vocational schools (specialized technical instruction), magnet schools, prep schools, or special schools. High school usually begins in the early fall months (August or September), and goes until the beginning of summer (May or June), with the remainder of the year being a summer break. Most schools have a few breaks during the year, for the winter holidays, Thanksgiving, and other important holidays like Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
